The pattern is in US terms
Items required 
4mm (6) and 5mm (H) hooks.  If you do not have a 4mm hook use a 4.25mm (G) hook instead.
Double knit (8 ply) Yellow, Beige & Dark Brown
Stitch marker
Wool needle
2 x Sew on Googley Eyes

Guidelines
At the end of each round just carry on.
Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.
HK - hook
CH - chain
SS – Slip Stitch
HDC – half double crochet
HDC Inc – Half double crochet Increase.  Increase by placing 2 hdc in 1 stitch.
HDC Dec – Half double crochet decrease.  Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through all the loops.
Gauge
7 sts & 6 rows = 2”
If your hat is coming out too big go down one hook size and vice versa if it’s too small.

Basic Hat
Using 5mm (H) hook & yellow yarn (change to Dark Brown on the last 2 rows)
At the end of each round just carry on.
Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.
Ch 2 (or use magic circle)
Round 1) 6 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook (6)
Round 2) 6 hdc inc (12)
Round 3) *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (18)
Round 4) *2 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (24)
Round 5) *3 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (30)
Round 6) *4 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (36)
Round 7) *5 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (42) (newborn go to round 11)
Round 8) *6 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (48)
Round 9) *7 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (54) (3-6 months go to round 11)
Round 10) *8 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (60)
Round 11) hdc around (newborn 42, 3-6 months 54, 6-12 months 60)
Newborn need another 9 rounds after round 11 – for the last 2 rounds swap to dark brown yarn
3-6 months need another 10 rounds after round 11 – for the last 2 rounds swap to dark brown yarn
6-12 months need another 12 rounds after round 11 – for the last 2 rounds swap to dark brown yarn
When you have finished the above slip stitch x 2, finish.  

Bottom of Horns x 2
Yellow yarn and 5mm (H) Hook
Ch 6 ss to join
Round 1- 6) Ch 2, 6 hdc around, ss
Round 7) Ch 2, 6 hdc around, finish
Top of Horns x 2
Dark Brown yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1) 4 hdc in 2nd ch hk  (carry on with ea round moving stitch marker) (4)
Round 2) 4 hdc inc   (8)
Round 3) 8 hdc around (8)
Round 4) 4 hdc dec (4)
Round 5) 2 hdc dec, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to horn)



 
Attach the horns to the hat (you can stuff them if you want to make sure they stand up but I didn’t)


































Ears x 4
Yellow yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 6
Row 1) 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hk, 3 hdc, ch 2, turn (4)
Row 2) 4 hdc, ch 2, turn (4)
Row 3) 1 hdc inc, 2 hdc, 1 hdc inc, ch 2, turn  (6)
Row 4) 1 hdc inc, 4 hdc, 1 hdc inc, ch 2, turn (8)
Row 5-6) 8 hdc, ch 2, turn (8)
Row 7) 1 hdc dec, 4 hdc, 1 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (6)
Row 8) 1 hdc dec, 2 hdc, 1 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (4)
Row 9) 2 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (2)
Row 10) 1 hdc dec, finish (1)
Join 2 together to make each ear.
Attach to hat












Nose
Beige yarn & 5mm (H) hook
Ch 16
Row 1) 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hk, 13 hdc, ch 2, turn (14)
Row 2) 1 hdc dec, 10 hdc, 1 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (12)
Row 3) 1 hdc dec, 8 hdc, 1 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (10)
Row 4) 1 hdc dec, 6 hdc, 1 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (8)
Row 5) 1 hdc dec, 4 hdc, 1 hdc dec, finish (leave enough yarn to sew to hat) (6)













Nostrils x 2
Dark Brown yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 3, ss to join
Round 1) 6 hdc in the ring, ss to join and finish (press flat) (6)













Eyes
Sew on googly eyes













Do not leave a child under 36 months unattended with an item with googly eyes attached.
