Gingerbread Man Hat 1 yr+

 



The pattern is in US terms
Items required 
5mm (H) hook & 4mm (6) hook.  If you don’t have a 4mm hook use a 4.25mm (G) hook instead.
Beige, Green, Red, Blue, White & Black Double knit (8ply) 
Stitch marker & Wool needle

Guidelines
At the end of each round just carry on.  
Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.
HK - hook
CH - chain
SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single crochet - Hook through stitch, Yarn over hook, pull through stitch, Yarn over hook, Pull through one loop, yarn over hook, pull through both loops.
SC Inc – Single Crochet Increase. Increase by placing 2 sc in 1 stitch.
SC Dec – Single Crochet Decrease. Hook through 1st stitch, yarn over hook, pull hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook, pull through. Yarn over hook and through 1st 2 loops, yarn over hook and through last 2 loops.
HDC – half double crochet
HDC Inc – Half double crochet Increase.  Increase by placing 2 hdc in 1 stitch.
HDC Dec – Half double crochet decrease.  Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through all the loops.  
DC – Double crochet
DC Inc - Double crochet Increase. Increase by placing 2 dc in 1 stitch
DC Dec – Double crochet decrease. Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, yarn over hook, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through 1st 2 loops, yarn over hook and through all the hoops left.
Gauge
2” = 7 stitches x 6 rows
If your hat is coming out too big go down one hook size and vice versa if it’s too small.

1-3 years cm 45.72cm - 50.80cm 20.32cm
  " 18" - 20" 8"
3 – 10 years cm 48.26cm - 50.07cm 21.59cm
  " 19" - 20.5" 8.5"
10 years + cm 50.7cm - 55.8cm 22.86cm - 25.4 cm
  " 20.5" - 22" 9" - 10"

BASIC HAT
Using 5mm (H) hook and yarn. 
Ch 2 (or use magic circle)
Round 1) 6 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook (6)
Round 2) 6 hdc inc (12)
Round 3) *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (18)
Round 4) *2 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (24)
Round 5) *3 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (30)
Round 6) *4 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (36)
Round 7) *5 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (42)
Round 8) *6 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (48)
Round 9) *7 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (54)
Round 10) *8 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (60) (1 -3 yrs go to round  13)
Round 11) *9hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (66) (3 – 10yrs go to row 13)
Round 12) *10 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (72)
Round 13) hdc around (66) (1 – 3 yrs 60, 3 – 10 yrs 66, 10 yrs+ 72)
You need another 13 rounds for each of the sizes.
(total quantity of rounds  1 – 3 yrs 24, 3 – 10 yrs 25, 10 yrs+ 26)
When you have finished the above slip stitch x 2, finish.
Change to cream 
Next Round) Join yarn to anywhere around the hat, ch 1, sc round, ss to first ch, finish
The hat will stretch to most sizes. If you do want to make a hat that is slightly bigger do another increase row 
Eyes x 2
White Yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1) 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hk Round 2) 6 hdc inc
Round 3) *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6, 2 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach the eye to the hat)

Pupils x 2
Black yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1) 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hk
Round 2) 6 hdc inc, 2 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach the pupil to the eye)


Eyebrows x 2
Blue yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 9
Row 1) 1 ss in 2nd ch from hk, 1 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc, finish (leave enough yarn to attach the eyebrow to the hat)

Cheeks x 2
Red yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1) 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hk
Round 2) 6 hdc inc, 2 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach the cheek to the hat)


Mouth
White yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 20
Row 1) 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hk, 17 hdc, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)


Holly x 3
Green yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Row 1) 2 sc in 2nd ch from hk, ch 1, turn (2)
Row 2) 2 sc inc, ch 1, turn (4)
Row 3) 1 sc inc, 2 sc, 1 sc inc, ch 1, turn (6)
Row 4) 1 sc dec, 2 sc, 1 sc dec, ch 1, turn (4)
Row 5) 2 sc dec, ch 1, turn (2)
Row 6) 2 sc inc, ch 1, turn (4)
Row 7) 1 sc inc, 2 sc, 1 sc inc, ch 1, turn (6)

Round 3) 4 sc dec, ss around to close up the whole, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)
Now it’s just a case of attaching each of the features onto the hat
