Guest Blogger Week 89 Felt Magical

I would like to say a huge welcome
to
Monique

Tell us a bit about you:
I sell felt sewing patterns for pocket sized toys and baby mobiles.
I’ve always loved craft but handsewing with felt is one technique
that I am especially comfortable with.
I am mostly self-taught having pottered away at it from a young age,
although a few people showed me the key stitches a long time ago.
Even now I still tend to stick to the fundamentals and try to add a modern aesthetic.
As a pattern designer it is important to me that my felt toys
are attractive and accessible to lots of people,
so striking simple designs are essential.
I love encouraging others to stitch with felt too.

How did you decide on the name for your shop?
I wanted a name that included my material (felt) mixed
with something describing how crafting makes me feel.
It helped that I could make a little pun out of it.

How how long has your shop been open and why did you start?
I opened my shop in 2011 but it took several months of planning
and stitching before I could add any patterns to it.
I have SO many more ideas I still want to include.

What is your favourite item in your shop at the moment?
I love all of my mobiles but am especially happy with the sea creature one.
The colours match just perfectly and I like that it would suit a boy or girl.

What made you start ….?
I naturally gravitated to craft as a child and as an adult, it still makes me feel calm and happy.

What would be the one piece of advice would you give to a person setting up their own shop?
Pick a subject that you love.
Your enthusiasm will be infectious and you will enjoy yourself.
At the end of the day, it’s got to be fun!

Finally – a big thank you to Sue for inviting me to contribute.
One of the unexpected pleasures of running a pattern shop
has been joining an international crafting community.
It is a privilege when people choose my patterns for their projects,
and equally when I’m asked to contribute to craft blogs.

Thank you ever so much Monique
I love your work!!
They are just such fun.
My favorite has to be your sea mobile as well.
I hope you'll all join me in thanking Monique and visit her sites.
She has a lot of amazing felt items!
