Free Daisy Ear Flap Hat Pattern 1 yr+


Daisy Ear Flap Hat 1 yr+

The pattern is in US terms

Items required
4mm (6) and 5mm (H) hook. If you don’t have a 4mm hook use a 4.25mm (G) hook instead.
Beige, White, Black, Red, Yellow, Pink & Orange Double knit (8 ply)
Stitch marker
Wool needle

Guidelines
At the end of each round just carry on. 
Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.
HK - hook
CH - chain
SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single crochet
SC Inc – Single Crochet Increase. Increase by placing 2 sc in 1 stitch.
SC Dec – Single Crochet Decrease. Hook through 1st stitch, yarn over hook, pull hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook, pull through. Yarn over hook and through all the loops.
HDC – half double crochet
HDC Inc – Half double crochet Increase.  Increase by placing 2 hdc in 1 stitch.
HDC Dec – Half double crochet decrease.  Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through all the loops. 
DC – Double crochet
DC Inc   - Double crochet Increase. Increase by placing 2 dc in 1 stitch
DC Dec – Double crochet decrease. Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, yarn over hook, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through 1st 2 loops, yarn over hook and through all the hoops left.
Gauge
7 sts & 6 rows = 2”
If your hat is coming out too big go down one hook size and vice versa if it’s too small.

Using 5mm (H) hook and  Beige yarn.
Ch 2 (or use magic circle)

Round 3)              *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (18)
Round 4)              *2 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (24)
Round 5)              *3 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (30)
Round 6)              *4 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (36)
Round 7)              *5 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (42)
Round 8)              *6 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (48)
Round 9)              *7 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (54)
Round 10)            *8 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (60) (1 -3 yrs go to round  13)

You need another 13 rounds for each of the sizes.

When you have finished the above slip stitch x 2 (don’t finish carry on with the first earflap)

Row 14)               56 hdc, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)
      
Attach to the hat

Eyes x 2
White yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1)              6 hdc
Round 2)              6 hdc inc
Round 3)              *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6, 2 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)

Pupils x 2
Black yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1)              6 hdc
Round 2)              6 hdc inc, 2 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the eye)

Attach the pupil to the eye

Attach the eyes to the hat

Nose
Beige yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1)              6 hdc
Round 2)              6 hdc inc, 2 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)
  
Attach the nose to the hat

Eyebrows x 2
Red yarn & 4mm hook
To make the eyebrows you put your hook from front to back and pull a loop of yarn through.  You then move to the next hole and put the hook from front to back and pull a loop through the hat and the loop you have on the hook.



Carry on till you make the shape of a eyebrow. 

Mouth
Black yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 12
Row 1)  1 ss in 2nd ch from hk, 3 ss, 1 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc, 3 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)

Attach the mouth to the hat

Hair x 9
3 x Red, 3 x Yellow, 2 x Pink, 1 x Orange & 4mm (6) hook
Round 1)              Ch 12, 1 ss to join
Round 2)              Ch 2, 11 hdc (just carry on moving your stitch marker as you go. Do not ss to join)
Round 3 – 22)     12 hdc
Round 23)            6 hdc dec
Round 24)            Fold the hair in half and ss through both side to close or 3 hdc dec to close, finish

Stuff the hair and attach to the hat (whilst stuffing bend the hair slightly)

Your hat should now be finished J
